Starting with Honey Bees

by Rachel Knight |  Thursday, 15 April 2010 Starting with Honey Bees

If you are interested in keeping honey bees you might like to include some trees for bees in your garden. They’ll help the native birds too. I use the aptly named 100 Best Native Plants for New Zealand Gardens and The Native Garden: Design Themes from Wild New Zealand to choose what plants to order from Taupo Native Plant nursery.

It’s still warm enough to sow some winter crops but they’ll need some water to get them started. As you pull out summer crops you can mulch or sow green manure if you’re not planning to use the area during winter. I had such a delicious rocket salad at La Bella Italia in Wellington on Friday night that I decided to become much more of a rocket scientist this winter.

If you’d like to start your own flock of chickens (or add to your current one), I currently have two pullets for sale.
