National Summary

  • For the entire North Island

    Squally southwesterlies, gale in exposed places, with heavy showers and small hail. Snow down to 500 metres in central and southern areas affecting higher roads. Showers clearing during the morning and winds easing, however, a few showers return to western parts in the evening.

  • Marlborough to Otago

    A few wintry showers at first about the Otago coast and Banks Peninsula, otherwise fine with frosts inland.

  • Nelson

    Fine apart from a few showers about the western ranges.

  • Buller and Westland

    Fine at first, but a few showers from around midday.

  • Fiordland and Southland

    Showers, with snow to 600 metres at first, clearing Southland by afternoon.

  • Chatham Islands

    Strong cold southwesterlies with hail showers, easing in the afternoon.
